Description
Dolomitic Limestone
Dolomitic limestone is a combination of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate and serves two purposes in the growing medium. Primarily, it neutralizes acids in the growing medium but also provides some additional magnesium and calcium for plant uptake.
Dolomite, a type of limestone, provides valuable nutrients to plants and helps change the pH of the soil by raising it to match the plants’ needs. It’s sometimes called dolomitic lime or dolomitic limestone, and provides more nutrients than straight lime. It’s often used in addition to balanced fertilizers, particularly with seeding fruit.
As soil acidity increases, several plant essential nutrients become unavailable for the plant to uptake, such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium – the three macro nutrients required for healthy growth. Neutralizing soil pH effectively frees up these essential nutrients, and therefore giving your lawn a better chance at success.
Benefits:
- Finely pulverized limestone provides quick reactivity and dispersal in garden soils
- Spread dolomitic limestone with drop spreader or by hand
- Neutralizes acid soils
- Limestone mineral improves fertilizer availability, promotes healthy bacteria, as well as enhances nutrient availability and disease resistance
- Natural source of calcium and magnesium
